Sugarhills was recorded in Belgium in the winter of 2001-02. We got the backing tracks down with ghost vocals then we took what we had back to the UK. Much of the recording was done at my home (good job the walls to the house are 2 feet thick ).

When my studio was situated at home we were always getting people knocking on the door or the phone ringing off the hook. The times a take would be ruined by my wife & partner Gerry coming home, putting the key in the door and talking to the cats (we have 3) without realizing that this building is a studio! She seems to think it’s a home??

For the the final mix I tried to find a place in France or anywhere warm with a swimming pool in the middle of nowhere. After many calls we decided to try my place at Topcliffe where I fish, I own a static caravan by the side of the river, there is a post office two pubs a church and a few houses.

We spent 3 months shaping the record we were a stride away from our beds the kitchen was in the same room everything was there it was perfect. No one new we were there so there were no distractions from folk calling and disturbing the vibe.
